National Flash Fiction Day 2023
June 22 is our shortest day of the year — and the day we know and love as National Flash Fiction Day. Since 2012 we have been celebrating the small form with this big competition.

Important Note: Tickets for the workshop part of the event are $10 and only available at the door. There are no pre-sales.
National Flash Fiction Day celebrations in Te Tai Tokerau Northland will consist of a workshop followed by afternoon tea and a public reading / open mic of flash fiction, including NFFD winning entries and Northland's winning entry. The workshop starts at 1pm and the open mic will start at 2.30pm.
Cost: $10 for the workshop (pay at the door), open mic is free. Afternoon tea provided.
Workshop: The Art of Microfiction
The key to microfiction is the offbeat or, ‘what’s not there’ in storytelling. This workshop will answer the question, what is microfiction and will offer writers tips and techniques on how to sculpt small stories, with an emphasis on words as a currency and how to rise above the cliché.
Presented by: Tracie Lark
Tracie is from Newcastle, Australia and now calls Whangārei home. She teaches English and creative writing at Huanui College. Tracie has an array of poetry and fiction published in various printed and online anthologies from New Zealand and Australia to Ireland and Indonesia.
Sunday 27 June, at the Te Hononga hub in the Hundertwasser Memorial Park, Kawakawa, 1pm to 3.30pm.
